About a year ago Nelson
& Booth (a firm specializing in family law and appellate practice)
converted their billing system from Timeslips to Tabs3
from Software Technology, Inc.
Joseph Booth, a partner in the firm, was
thrilled with the switch to Tabs3. “Our old
billing software had left us suffering with little to no customer
support, lost and corrupted data and worse. After converting to
Tabs3, we discovered errors in the old database
that were greater than the cost of the Tabs3 program!
Before Tabs3 was even up and running it made money
for us.”
The firm retained CyTek Corporation, a
Kansas City based Certified STI Integrator, to handle the conversion,
installation and training for the new system. The CyTek team quickly
converted the existing data and provided the support Nelson &
Booth needed to begin using the Tabs3 program immediately,
taking full advantage of the software’s robust features. “More
importantly,” adds partner, Joseph Booth, “all of the
attorneys and staff have renewed confidence in our billing software.”
“It never occurred to us years ago
that there were popular time and billing systems that would be inaccurate
– that the data could be corrupted or could contain other
errors inherent to the program. If a firm never experiences that
nightmare then they may not appreciate or understand the comfort
and joy afforded by simple accurate performance found in software
like Tabs3.”
Mr. Booth realizes the necessity of a
billing system that provides power, reliability and ease of use.
“With Tabs3 in place, we have a legitimate
trust in the reports and billings generated. We have found Tabs3
easy to use. When we want to compare productivity, find the accounts
due to a particular attorney or any of those other administrative
tasks - the click of a mouse answers questions once lost in mystery.”
Because of their past experiences with billing systems, the firm
wanted to make sure that they had quick access to technical support.
“When we have been confronted with unusual questions or simply
a loss of intelligence on our part, the on-line help, the consultants
at CyTek Corporation, and the ability to talk to real people instantly
at Software Technology has been fantastic.”
As with any small practice, the attorneys
at Nelson & Booth are left doing what does not happen automatically.
“None of us went to law school to balance books, review accounts
receivables, manage production, or argue with our own computers!”
In family law it is common to start one
task, have a different client call with an issue, and while talking
to that person, quickly respond to an e-mail from yet a third client.
In the old pre-Tabs3 days the firm often lost track
of those events. “We realized we were losing more money in
billings never logged than by any other way. Using Tabs3
on each desktop has allowed us to log time accurately and contemporaneously.
Each user can see their time entries and their total time for the
day as the entries go forward. Such immediate feedback has helped
most of us to recognize lost and forgotten tasks.”
“If billing clients was the only cost to running a law firm
we would all be wealthy. Now, with Tabs3, we bill
for all our time, our bills are accurate when they go out the door,
and valuable reports come out of the system easily. Tabs3
paid for itself immediately.”
When Mr. Booth met with CyTek’s
consultants to view a demonstration of Tabs3 he
felt that he had found a solution. The software has proven itself
to be a system the firm can trust.
